BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is an approach to uncommon improvement in operative effectiveness through the redesigning of important business processes and supporting business systems. It is revolutionary design of key business methods that involves examination of the fundamental process itself. The orientation of redesigning efforts is essentially radical. In alternative words, it is a complete deconstruction and rethinking of business method in its completeness.
Improving business processes is predominant for business to remain competitive in today's market place. Over the last decade, new technologies have accelerated the requirement to enhance business processes. In the wake of skyrocketing competition because of opening of economy, Indian firms have been forced to enhance their business processes. Customers are also demanding better products & services. Hence pressure is constructed to enhance business processes.  BPR involves the subsequent steps:
  • Objectives are the desired end results of the redesign process which the management and organization makes an attempt to realize. This can offer the desired focus, direction, and motivation for the design method.
  • The designers have to understand customers - their profile, their steps in acquiring; using and disposing a product. The aim is to revamp business method that clearly provides supplemental value to the customer.
  • The existing processes can offer a crucial base for the re-designers. The aim is to achieve an understanding of the 'what', and 'why' of the targeted process. However, some companies go through the reengineering process with clean perspective without laying stress on the past processes.
  • Formulation of redesign plan is the real crux of the reengineering efforts. Customer targeted design ideas are known and developed. Different processes are thought and the optimum is chosen.
  • AIt is easier to develop new process than to implement them. It is the joint responsibility of the designers and management to implement the new methods.
