BE PROACTIVE

The word pro-activity is currently common in management literature, it is a word not found in several of the dictionaries. Being proactive suggests something more than taking initiative. It means that as human beings, we have got chargeable for our own lives. Our behavior is an outcome of our decisions, not our conditions. We have got the initiative and also the responsibility to make things happen.
The word responsibility suggests we have the power to choose our response. Extremely proactive individuals recognize that responsibility. They do not hold responsible the circumstances, conditions or learning for their behavior. Is is a result of their own actively aware selection, supported by values, instead of a product of their circumstances, feelings and conditions.
By nature, we tend to be proactive, if our lives are a product of learning and conditions, it is for we have by conscious decision or by default, chosen to empower those things to manage us. In making such a selection, we tend to be reactive.  Reactive individuals are usually affected by their physical environment. If the weather is good, they feel smart. If it is not, it affects their attitude and their performance. Proactive individuals can carry their own weather with them.  Weather makes no distinction to them. They are value driven. If they value to produce good quality work, it is a function their values and not of whether.
Social environment exerts its power in affecting reactive individuals. When people treat them well, they feel encouraged, when they do not, reactive individuals turn defensive or protecting. Reactive people construct their emotional lives round the behavior of others. They empower regularly the weaknesses of other individuals to manage them. The power to subordinate an impulse to a value is the fundamental nature of the proactive person.
The contrasting distinction between the proactive individual and reactive individuals lies in the fact while feelings, circumstances, conditions and the environment drive reactive individual, the values, carefully considered, selected and internalized values drive proactive people. Though external stimuli still influence proactive people yet their response to the stimuli, conscious or unconscious, is value-supported.
